Rain, rain, go away… or stay, because we’re ready anyway
We’re currently in the third month since the rainy season started, and from the looks of things, these showers have no plans to stop soon. Sure, we still see the occasional sunshine here and there. However, if you live in Nigeria, you know not to trust it too much because it can come like a thief in the night.
One moment, the sun is shining; the next, you’re sitting in the office regretting that you were deceived. You had spread your clothes outside, and now they have been drenched, or worse, you left your windows open.
Anyway, while the rain continues to remind us who’s boss, we can return the energy by still showing up and looking good while weathering the storm. In our rainy season skin reset edit, shared earlier, we explored the best skincare for the current weather, which we hope everyone is following.
Today, we’re going to share with you makeup looks and tips that are best for this weather.

Soft matte makeup look

Uma Jammeh via @makeupbychelseax on Instagram For this rainy season, a soft matte finish should be your go-to. In terms of longevity, humidity resistance, and achieving that elegant look, it checks all the boxes. Due to the matte finish, your makeup is less likely to turn greasy or separate too. If you would normally reach for all liquid and oil-based products, you have to switch them all out.
Start with a mattifying primer to set the tone. Then, matte or powder foundation and matte concealer should be used for the base. While building the look, you can also bake lightly with a translucent setting powder. This would help to absorb excess moisture and oil. Use powder blushes as well as powder bronzer if needed. To top it all off, finish with a matte setting spray.
Note that the key here is a light beat rather than a full-on glam moment. So use the products lightly but still aim for that matte finish.

Clean girl makeup

If this is your work, please contact us for proper credit Yes, I know, I know — clean girl is over; it’s the rise of maximalism; 2026 is the year of the bold. We are all in support of all of that, but as they say, when in Rome, do as the Romans do.
In the rainy season, you may have to lean more on the softer side of things. In most cases, the best-case scenario would be to skip makeup altogether—but I can already imagine someone dropping to their knees at the thought of that. So not to worry — that’s where the clean girl comes to the rescue.
Switch out your foundation for a skin tint, skip drawing your brows with a pencil and just use a brow gel with slight fill-ins. Brush a bit of blush on your cheeks. Use your favourite lip liner and top it all off with your desired shade of lipstick. Clean, simple, and ready to conquer the war… I mean rain.

Latte makeup

If this is your work, please contact us for proper credit Hearing the name alone, you can already imagine the mixture and harmony of browns in latte makeup. Earthy and warm tones like browns and orange are perfect for the weather. If you do happen to get rained on, it’ll be easy to touch up in a second.
This is the one time I hate to say goodbye to blush. Here, the look trades bright pinks and bold colours for a bronzed, sun-kissed complexion.

Waterproof eyes

Yara Shahidi via Pinterest (original creator unknown). If this is your work, please contact us for proper credit If you do want to wear eye makeup, waterproof formulas are highly recommended. This will help prevent smudging caused by humidity or those unexpected moments when you get caught in the rain.
Opt for waterproof mascara, waterproof eyeliner, and long-lasting brow products, like the previously mentioned brow gel. That way, even if the weather decides to test you, your eye makeup will stay right where it needs to be.

Overall makeup tips for the season
Choose matte lipstick instead of lip gloss.
Carry blotting papers instead of continuously layering on more powder throughout the day.
Apply concealer only where necessary rather than all over the face.
Don’t skip primer, especially in this weather. A good primer helps your makeup last longer and stay in place.
Avoid oil-based products where possible.
Opt for waterproof formulas
Make the switch to matte and powder-based products whenever you can
Building a rain-proof beauty routine
The rain has been showing up steadily, so it’s best that we know how to prepare for it. That way, we can get through the season still looking and feeling like our best selves.
With the fluctuating temperatures and unpredictable weather, we need to be prepared. Before you even start your makeup, make sure you’re also following the right skincare routine for the season. Maintain a consistent mild cleansing routine, stay hydrated, exfoliate lightly, and do not skip sunscreen.
