Discover singer and songwriter Fave’s ultimate beauty secrets and detailed makeup routine, designed to tackle large pores while achieving a gorgeous, radiant “fairy glow”.

You may know her for romantic tracks like “Baby Riddim” and “Mr Man”, though you’re more familiar with her rasp-laced vocals on the Davido hit “Kante”. Her latest EP “RnBling” spotlights the best of her qualities; on the high-tempo “Body Talk” and “Dance”, she brings her rhythmic talk-singing that forces the listener to dance or, as she puts it, “talk with your body”. Chidozie Godsfavour Ugochinyere, whose stage name is Fave, needs little to no introduction, as her discography speaks for itself. At 19, while studying law, she began uploading raw, minute-long vocal freestyles to X (formerly known as Twitter) during the 2020 lockdowns. No one, including Fave, could have predicted how rapidly her bedroom recordings would translate to global airwaves. 

Soon after, she earned the mainstream success she hoped for. The viral surge of her 2021 breakout single, “Baby Riddim,” topped charts across Africa and established her distinct musical identity. This includes her sultry vocal phrasing, dancehall-infused rhythms, and intensely personal songwriting. 

Her next challenge was proving she was no transient internet phenomenon, which she conquered by winning the Headies Rookie of the Year in 2022. She also secured high-profile guest verses alongside powerhouses like Olamide and Davido, and amassed over half a billion career streams.  

Today, Fave stands as one of West Africa’s most compelling pop exports, distinguished by a refusal to stick strictly to one genre box. However, a lesser-known fact about the African pop star is her love, and talent, for the beauty industry. One scroll through her Instagram feed, and her thin eyebrow, red lip, and glittery eyeshadow cannot be missed. This ethereal look is dubbed “Fairy Makeup”

In this edition of #MyBeautyHack, Fave breaks down every step to get the glittery and glossy look that has threatened the ‘Clean Girl’ trend. From her skin prep to the tips and tricks for applying makeup as a woman with big pores, she leaves no stone unturned and no step untouched.

Fave’s skin prep for applying makeup if you have big pores

It all begins with the lips

In a green and yellow bathing suit set, Fave comes into the screen chanting “Marie Claire! Maire Claire! Marie Claire!” Clearly, she is excited to walk us through her beauty routine, and this sentiment is mutual.

“Lip balm,” she says as she starts by applying the “Laneige lip mask” to her lips. As she rubs it on, she confesses, “This is actually a lip mask, but it is all the same thing.” Her application routine for the lip mask is a twice-daily one: “I use it before I go to bed, and when I wake up, after my skincare routine.”

Additionally, she reveals that before filming, she applied her sunscreen and the other steps for her daily skincare routine. We are not here for skincare; this is a makeup tutorial, and if you want the latter, we have that here. This is also a skin prep for said beauty tutorial.

“I have to make sure that I moisturise my face, even more. Prime my face! Before I put the makeup on.”

Skin prep is skin important

The first step for her is clipping her hair. As she holds her wig back with metallic clips, she jokes about its importance, “We don’t want anything standing in the way of our greatness.” After that, she reaches for her Charlotte Tilbury Water Magic Cream, which she applies in lines and dots across her cheeks, forehead, and jaw.

While using her “magic cream”, she addresses the star pimple patches on her face and expresses her scepticism of their abilities. She takes them off as she begins to massage the cream into her face, covering her temples, under-eyes, nose, and cheeks.

“You are about to see the easiest, most beautiful makeup routine ever!” she exclaims as she lets the moisture settle in for a minute before applying anything else. In the meantime, she eats a shawarma; it is more than a minute, but she would rather not take her chances.

She grabs the One Size Secure the Sweat primer for her next step. “I am a sweater, so I have to find ways to block my sweat,” she says as she applies a tiny amount of primer to her hand, and then she transfers it to her face. “They tell you not to put primer under your eyes directly,” she says as she massages it around her eyes.

She theorises why professionals say that but eventually admits, “I have no idea… I just listen to whatever the makeup creators, makeup gods, tell me.” The primer application does not end on her face, as she can be seen massaging it into her neck before allowing it to sit for a minute or two.

As she comes to the end of the skin prep, she picks up her favourite product, the Danessa Myricks Universal Blurring Balm. She loves it because it helps her with her “big pores”. “If you don’t have big pores, you don’t know what God has done for you,” she jokes. It is clear that she has an affinity for the product because we can see there is barely anything left in it. She pokes fun at her almost empty Blurring Balm by singing, “Poverty [is] no good.”

Lastly, she holds the dewy skin prep look with an Elf Power Grip Dewy Setting Spray. This is a highlight for her because it “holds everything and locks in moisture.” She lets it settle for a minute and speeds up this process with a hand fan.

How to get the Fairy Makeup look in no time

Setting the foundation and more

When it is time for coverage, Fave opts for the Bloom by Lisa foundation, applying it sparingly with her fingers. She avoids overly heavy products, praising the entrepreneur behind the brand for creating a formula packed with natural ingredients that match the skin flawlessly while causing zero damage.

“I don’t really like foundation,” she reveals, “I only use this because it has natural ingredients in it.” She applies a little on her cheeks and forehead, and she does this with her fingers. As for her reason for applying foundation with her fingers, she has none, but when she is done, she wipes her fingers clean.

For concealing and contouring, she drops her product (Born This Way concealer) lower than the immediate under-eye line, mapping the face with a standard shade. “They say don’t apply too close to your eyes,” she says. “I know I am saying ‘they said’ too much, but that’s what I call the makeup people on the internet.”

She explains this before layering a distinct white concealer (HNB cosmetics airbrush concealer) directly beneath her eyes for extreme brightness. She pairs this with a heavy pop of vibrant pink shadow blush from the Beauty by AD palette across her cheekbones, creating a whimsical “fairy-like” flush.

Fave uses the concealer, contour (Beauty by AD palette), and blush to create a defined look. Her focal areas are her temples, cheekbones, nose, and jawline. As she contours her face, she gets comfortable and dishes out a few fun facts about her. 

Blending, fun facts, and answers with Fave

The first is that she went to makeup school for two months while waiting for her admission to the university. “But makeup has progressed,” she jokes. She notes that back then in her school, they didn’t have blurring balm, and Milk of Magnesia was the go-to primer. “The good old days. Now the kids nowadays don’t know… But now primer comes in different shapes and sizes.”

She begins to blend the contour as she reveals even more facts about her: “I sleep with my eyes open” and “I chew with my mouth closed” as she demonstrates how. She uses a blending sponge for this step and expresses, “I start with my under eye” so she can then apply a white concealer again.

As the look starts to come into play, she answers a few questions that she had been asked by her followers on Instagram. “What’s your favourite genre?” To that, she gives a cheeky answer, “Right now, it is ‘RnBling’.”

She uses a brush to give finishing touches to the blush she blends, and laughs when she reads the question, “Do you believe in love at first sight?” Her answer is negative; she believes in love at first speak, but not so much for sight. “Whatever it is that you are falling in, is probably lust, or damnation, or problem.” 

Eventually, she uses a smaller brush to blend the white concealer. She spreads it across her under-eye regions, the sides of her nose, and her eyelids.

Get Fave’s eye and lip makeup routine

Fave’s signature tiny brows

When it comes to brows, Fave stays devoted to a very tiny, classic pencil aesthetic. “It’s no secret that I love tiny brows,” she says. “Rule of thumb for the brows. It has to be tiny. I don’t really care so much for how I draw it because it’s tiny. When I conceal it, it will still look immaculate. She uses the Charlotte Tilbury BROW CHEAT Eyebrow pencil and carves the edges out cleanly with a custom mix of her foundation and concealer. Then she uses the Charlotte Tilbury airbrush setting spray to keep it in place.

To lock her base, she uses the Laura Mercier pressed setting powder over her lids to immediately stop creasing. She shares a smart trick for loose powder: always tap your puff against the back of your hand first to accurately measure the quantity before touching your skin. After blending the setting powder, she uses her trusted Charlotte Tilbury airbrush setting spray again. 

Don’t forget your eyeshadow

For her eyes, Fave reveals that she keeps things beautifully consistent. “I do the same eyeshadow makeup every day of my life when I do my makeup,” she notes. She relies on the Ruby Kisses Malibu Sunrise eyeshadow palette filled with soft pinks to maintain her ethereal aesthetic. “This is how you stay a fairy pink. Always subtle. Not too much. Don’t do too much”. For an extra dramatic punch, she dabs a touch of fine glitter directly onto the lids.

To ground the delicate eye shadows, she applies a sharp, liquid winged eyeliner. She knows precision is paramount; she admits, “I had to go do my eyeliner in the bathroom because I needed the mirror.” She balances her face out with an all-over dusting of Laneige Compact Powder.

We began with lips, and with them we shall end 

Right before creating her lip look, Fave re-applies her hydrating lip mask (Laneige lip mask) to clean away excess powder and residue. “I love my lips. Extra moisturised,” she highlights. She shapes her lips with the Kiko Milano lip liner and smudge brush combo, blending it heavily before filling the centre with a bright pink lipstick. The lipstick is the Kiko Milano Unlimited Double Touch Lipstick and lip gloss

To soften the intense contrast, she mixes in a nude gloss to tone down the brightness. She then completes the colour profile with a black liner (Hourglass waterproof gel eyeliner) to tie her black-and-pink fairy theme together.

As a final, highly personal touch after setting her face, she uses her liquid eyeliner to trace and accentuate her natural beauty marks, even dotting a few playful new ones across her nose and cheeks. Then applies her Pat McGrath Labs Mascara (Dark Star) and Dior Lip Oil.

With her look fully locked down and a fresh, glazed lip shining, Fave drops one last exciting announcement for her dedicated style followers. Following a highly successful clothing event, she is planning her next major move back home. “I am going to be doing another yard sale really soon because the first one was awesome,” she shares enthusiastically. “Maybe I should do it in another state in Nigeria… you guys talk about how Lagos people have everything.”

Meet Jennifer Nnoli, the innovative founder of Omaricode, whose latest skincare-infused foundation, “Evendae”, is making foundation more mobile and easy to apply.

In under an hour, she engages, entertains, and educates even the toughest audience members about cosmetics and the science behind them. She highlights the importance of understanding the formulation science and what it means to care for skin in tropical climates. At the heart of her campaign is Omaricode, a beauty brand that she has spent the last eight years reshaping expectations for African cosmetics. She is Jennifer Nnoli, founder of Omaricode, a brand that intersects skincare and makeup.

Her desire to simplify daily routines has led her from a digital-first enterprise to a globally recognised African beauty label. Through brilliant product design, a refusal to follow fleeting trends, and a clear vision for regional expansion, Omaricode demonstrates that African brands leading with innovation can earn a permanent place on the world stage.

For her latest endeavour, Nnoli unveils the Omaricode “Evendae Foundation Stick”. As the name suggests, it’s a non-liquid foundation. With this, the brand hopes to redefine the African beauty industry and provide a counter product to the formulas that have dominated the market for years.

In this exclusive interview, Jennifer Nnoli speaks about transitioning from a legal career to the beauty industry, building Omaricode through faith and a skin-first philosophy, and creating multifunctional products for African complexions. She reveals the journey to creating the Evendae Foundation Stick, which marks the brand’s most significant step yet.

Jennifer Nnoli on the genesis of her beauty path

Jennifer Nnoli’s route to founding a cosmetics brand is as complex as it is insightful. A trained lawyer with a background that spans the legal sector, travel, and tourism. She also holds certifications in branding, product management, and cosmetic science, alongside an executive MBA. 

Despite her dedication to the corporate trajectory, her passion consistently pulled her back toward beauty. She was not entirely a stranger to the industry, as she had previously worked as a makeup artist and beauty retailer.

However, the pivot towards building her own brand occurred during a period of career transition. In a moment of creative block in her corporate trajectory, she recalls, “I started the brand at a point where I was feeling a little bit lost in terms of career.” So she turned to her faith for guidance during moments of uncertainty; she sought a name that reflected her core values. “I’m like, okay, I shouldn’t be leaning into my relationship with God only when I have issues. I should be leaning into my relationship with God and putting him first in everything I do.”

This conviction led her to the Swahili word “Omari”, which translates to “God first.” This was the first step of many that led to the formation of Omaricode. As Nnoli explains, “Putting God first is the code by which — part of our values, our brand as a whole in everything we do — I live by. So that’s Omaricode.”

How Omaricode went from a motto to a brand

Although it was registered in 2018, Nnoli launched the business and its operations in 2019. Initially, Omaricode functioned as a solo e-commerce venture, which Nnoli ran while maintaining her day job. “I run it strictly as an e-commerce business when I come home from work,” she shares. “The orders that came from the website were packaged by me. Everything was done, then I would drop it off with the security person and then book a dispatch.”

Suddenly, she saw herself navigating the early hurdles of starting a business in Nigeria, from funding constraints to volatile exchange rates and logistics nightmares. “When I say ‘the business was built from the ground up and I’ve put in my blood, sweat, and tears’, yes, I did that,” she says. “There is no aspect of my business that I don’t understand because I’ve worked every role.” 

By 2021, steady revenue convinced her to focus on Omaricode full-time, and she listened. So she quit her job and began building an operational foundation established on discipline and product integrity.

Bridging the skincare and makeup gap with Omaricode

Omaricode was born out of personal necessity, Nnoli shares. Living with sensitive, combination skin, she found herself frustrated by the options available on the market. “Most times when I try a lot of beauty products, I end up having breakouts,” she notes. “If you buy Nigerian brands, you won’t really see the ingredients listed. Then a lot of products have limited shade ranges, formulas that don’t necessarily really perform well in our climates, or even products that are just complicated to use.”

This exploration helped her identify a clear market gap: African women needed high-performance, multifunctional cosmetics designed explicitly for their skin tones, lifestyle, and environment. She explains, “I’m like, why can’t I make products that are designed for our skin tones, our lifestyle, our environment, performance, and still have those skincare benefits that I’m looking for that wouldn’t also necessarily break me out?” This centred her mission — making beauty feel effortless and accessible.

Omaricode pioneered a skin-first philosophy. In her words, “Our unique selling point, which was skin-first beauty: skincare-infused makeup products. We were one of the first people to really draw attention to it, and it’s not just a marketing gimmick.” 

Their formulations are engineered with active ingredients like salicylic acid in primers to help oily skin, or green tea extract and vitamin E to calm inflammation. “Those ingredients are carefully created and infused into those products for your skin not to react in any negative way,” Nnoli emphasises.

Furthermore, Omaricode focuses heavily on multi-use functionality. She explains, “Our blush stick, you can also use it like a lip and cheek stick. The bronzer stick can also be a bronzer and contour stick.” While she clarifies that “your makeup shouldn’t replace your skincare for any reason,” this hybrid approach ensures that wearing daily cosmetics does not compromise underlying skin health.

Introducing the Evendae Foundation — everyday essentials redefined

The latest chapter in Omaricode’s formulation journey is the launch of the Evendae Foundation Stick, a direct response to the heavy, overly matte formulas. When developing the name, Nnoli was deliberate about avoiding derivative industry trends. 

“There was this whole wave — all the foundations were skin something, skin something. And I’m like, I don’t want to come out with a foundation at some point and have it named that,” she jokes.

Instead, she focused on the purpose of the product. “I just wanted to do a product that will ‘even’ out your skin tone beautifully,” she explains. The name “Evendae” evolved into a wordplay where D-A-E stands for “Daily Anywhere Essentials.” As Nnoli defines it, “Evendae is a product you can use daily, you can take it anywhere, and it’s an essential in your makeup kit.”

She opted for a portable stick design offering buildable light-to-medium coverage with a radiant, skin-like finish because she recognised that heavy liquid foundations can feel claustrophobic in tropical heat. “Every brand has a liquid full-coverage matte foundation,” she says of the existing marketplace. 

“I looked at the market critically… what I kept hearing was, ‘Oh, I just want something easy. The foundations are heavy, it’s too cakey, it’s too matte.’ Why can’t we do a product that will address all these issues?” This is where she found her path, in the gap, just like she did all those years ago at the beginning of Omaricode.

Evendae allows users to streamline their routine into a quick 5-to-10-minute application that can even double as a concealer. It launches with 15 carefully calibrated shades targeting medium to deep undertones. Nnoli has always put African women first, and now, Omaricode offers an intentional range built specifically for melanated complexions. Despite this huge feat, she remains open to expanding based on community feedback.

This includes their undertones, climate realities, and aesthetic preferences. To be honest, she believes no one understands the nuances of African skin performance and shade ranges better than creators from the continent. 

Looking ahead, Nnoli’s vision for Omaricode extends well beyond Nigeria’s borders. Having established a physical retail footprint and built a loyal community, her future five-year roadmap focuses on scaling distribution networks across the African continent and solidifying strategic retail partnerships globally. 

Ultimately, she believes that by prioritising rigorous market research over fleeting trends, African beauty can help shape the future of the industry.  For her, Omaricode continues to set a benchmark for beauty brands emerging from the continent, proving that thoughtful, skin-first innovation has universal appeal.

GRIT’s first season comes to an end with a whirlwind of challenges, revealing its female champion. 

 

Faaji Productions’ Pan-African reality competition series “GRIT” crowned contestant Dawnye the winner this past Friday, concluding its eight-episode debut season. The series, which premiered July 3rd on YouTube, followed contestants through a series of physical and mental challenges inside the “GRIT” Residence. Dawnye won a ₦37.2 million prize after advancing through the competition and the season’s final round of challenges. 

The finale brought the season’s competing storylines to a close, with alliances shifting and contestants navigating increasingly demanding tests. The closing vote ultimately determined Dawnye as the winner. Hosted by Ini Dima-Okojie and filmed in Kenya, “GRIT” combined competitive challenges with interpersonal drama throughout its inaugural season.

Gunna is taking his relationship with Under Armour beyond campaigns and into the creative process.

The rapper has been named creative director of P-Star, a new lifestyle label being developed with the sportswear giant. The role gives Gunna a bigger hand in shaping the brand, from its visual identity to the way it approaches fashion and culture.

It is another step in a fashion journey that has been growing alongside his music career.

Gunna has never exactly treated fashion as an afterthought. His personal style has become a significant part of his public image, and in 2024, he made a more direct move into fashion with P by Gunna, a collection created with boohooMAN.

That project featured everything from graphic T-shirts and oversized denim to tracksuits, knitwear and jackets, reflecting the relaxed proportions and streetwear influences that have become closely associated with his wardrobe. P-Star feels like a natural progression from that experience.

The name itself carries the familiar “P” and star imagery, while the label is expected to sit somewhere between lifestyle, sport and fashion. More importantly, Gunna is not simply lending his name to the project. As creative director, he gets to play a much more active role in determining what the brand looks and feels like.

That distinction could make P-Star particularly interesting.

Celebrity fashion collaborations are nothing new, but there is a difference between appearing in a campaign and having a say in the creative direction of an entire label. Gunna now has the opportunity to translate the aesthetic he has developed through his own wardrobe into something that can exist beyond him.

It also gives Under Armour another way to connect with audiences who see sportswear as part of everyday style rather than something reserved for the gym or the field.

The partnership comes as sportswear brands continue to look towards music and fashion for cultural relevance. Under Armour has already been building its relationship with Gunna, including featuring him in its lifestyle and performance campaigns.

The brand has also been pushing further into fashion, including its collaboration with Los Angeles-based label 424 during Paris Fashion Week.

Gunna’s presence in that space makes sense. His style has consistently blurred the lines between streetwear, luxury, and performance-inspired dressing, giving him an audience that extends well beyond music.

With P-Star, that influence could become even more visible. For Gunna, this is no longer just about wearing the clothes. He is getting closer to the part of fashion where the decisions are made.
