Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi is set to leave Nottingham Forest for newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City, Soccernet.ng reports.

​Awoniyi joined the Tricky Trees from Union Berlin in 2022 and proved to be a key player during his first two seasons, helping the club avoid relegation.

​However, over the last two seasons, he has struggled to secure a regular starting spot, largely due to consistent injury problems and strong form from fellow strikers Chris Wood and Igor Jesus.

​Entering the summer, the 29-year-old striker had just one year remaining on his contract, making a departure from the City Ground highly likely.

​Despite this, speculation regarding his future remained relatively quiet until yesterday, when news broke that he was heading to Coventry City.

​Reports suggest the Super Eagles forward will join the Sky Blues in a deal worth €20 million. This is a significant deal for the newly promoted club, as Awoniyi is proven in the Premier League and can make a real impact if he stays fit.

​Awoniyi was all smiles as he received a hero’s send-off.

Awoniyi leaves Nottingham Forest with a record of 23 goals and six assists in 103 appearances across all competitions.
