Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) have decided to cut their head coach Nurudeen Aweroro loose after just one season in charge.
Both parties “reached a mutual agreement” on Saturday to end the relationship that lasted 280 calendar days.
One of Aweroro’s assistants, Shakiru Lawal, was also affected by the shake-up alongside team manager, Tammy Tamuno.
”We have reached a mutual agreement with Head Coach Nurudeen Aweroro, Team Manager Tammy Tamuno and Assistant Coach Shakiru Lawal to bring their respective contracts with the Club to an end, with immediate effect. The decision follows discussions between the Club and the affected members of the technical team, with both parties agreeing to part ways amicably,” Shooting Stars announced in a statement on Saturday.
With less than three weeks to their first game of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season against newcomers, Inter Lagos, the Ibadan club will go into the transfer market to shop for a replacement.
At the moment, the other assistant coaches at the club will take charge of technical matters until a new head coach is hired.
”nIn the interim, the other Assistant Coaches have been directed to take charge of the affairs of the Technical Department pending the appointment and announcement of a substantive Head Coach. The Club will communicate further developments in due course,” Shooting Stars stated.
Aweroro joined Shooting Stars on July 25, 2025 and spent 280 days in charge at the Oluyole Warriors. During that period, he led the club to third place finish last season which earned them a CAF Confederation Cup spot – their first expected appearance on the continent in 17 years.
The former Ikorodu City coach won 18 matches, drew six and lost 14 last term in charge of the Ibadan in the NPFL.
