GRIT’s first season comes to an end with a whirlwind of challenges, revealing its female champion.
Faaji Productions’ Pan-African reality competition series “GRIT” crowned contestant Dawnye the winner this past Friday, concluding its eight-episode debut season. The series, which premiered July 3rd on YouTube, followed contestants through a series of physical and mental challenges inside the “GRIT” Residence. Dawnye won a ₦37.2 million prize after advancing through the competition and the season’s final round of challenges.
The finale brought the season’s competing storylines to a close, with alliances shifting and contestants navigating increasingly demanding tests. The closing vote ultimately determined Dawnye as the winner. Hosted by Ini Dima-Okojie and filmed in Kenya, “GRIT” combined competitive challenges with interpersonal drama throughout its inaugural season.
Faaji is building the future of African entertainment
With the debut season of “GRIT” now complete, Faaji Productions is looking beyond its first major success. They are focusing on expanding the series and developing a broader slate of premium unscripted programming.
Speaking after the finale, Oyinkansola Owoyemi, Founder of Faaji Productions, said:
“Watching GRIT come full circle, from that first night in the Residence to Dawnye lifting the trophy, has been an incredibly emotional journey. This season proved that African stories, told with ambition and craft, can hold their own on any stage. Dawnye’s win is a testament to resilience. I am so proud of what this cast and crew built together over these eight episodes. This is just the beginning for GRIT and for Faaji Productions; we’re already looking ahead to what comes next.”
The company’s ambitions extend beyond a single series. Faaji Productions is a culture-driven media company focused on developing original African stories. They do this for global audiences, with an emphasis on production quality, emotional depth and commercial appeal. Faaji was founded on the belief that African stories should be treated as premium entertainment rather than confined to a niche category. Its name evokes joy, vibrancy, culture and community, values that remain central to the company’s creative identity. For the future, Faaji aims to develop even more content that is deeply rooted in African experiences while capable of connecting with audiences worldwide.
