ginius Opens a New Chapter With Here’s Where We Once Were

British-Ghanaian artist and producer ginius has released her new project, Here’s Where We Once Were, an intimate collection of songs that captures the beauty, uncertainty, and heartbreak that can come with love.

The project represents a particularly personal chapter for ginius, who draws heavily from experiences she has lived rather than imagined. Across the tape, she reflects on the progression of relationships, from the rush of falling for someone to the moments of doubt, emotional distance and eventual acceptance that follow.

“This is probably the realest tape I ever wrote,” ginius explains. “Some of the songs I have written prior to this I had not lived but this is a tape that every part has once been my reality. It’s the beginning of the end; simply put.”

Musically, Here’s Where We Once Were brings together Afro R&B, Amapiano and Genius’ own “afro blend” sound. Her approach combines Ghanaian Highlife influences with contemporary Afropop and R&B, creating a sound that reflects both her British-Ghanaian background and her modern creative outlook.

The project features a range of producers who help shape its diverse sonic palette. Insvne Auggie produced “Love Me Softly,” “Woman,” “Different (Remix)” and “So You Do,” while Joker produced “Test Drive.” Okukuseku the Bang Machine contributes production to “Lost & Numb,” and KFM Dadaba produced “Time & Attention,” which began as a freestyle. Van Boied handled the mix and master for the track.

While the production shifts throughout the tape, the emotional thread remains consistent. ginius moves between moments of tenderness and vulnerability, creating songs that feel like snapshots of different points in a relationship.

At its core, Here’s Where We Once Were is concerned with what happens after love changes. ginius acknowledges that relationships can end in different ways, whether through separation or loss, but suggests that the memories created along the way remain significant.

That perspective is central to ginius’ wider artistry. Deeply connected to her Ghanaian roots, she has developed a distinctive identity as both a singer-songwriter and producer, building soundscapes that resonate with her growing community of listeners, the Copilots.
