Creativity took centre stage in Lagos as Martell and Rolling Stone Africa brought together the continent’s leading creatives for an unforgettable evening of recognition, connection and artistic excellence.

On the evening of June 20, two of Africa’s biggest creative forces stood at the centre of a room filled with Nigeria’s most influential cultural voices. Davido and Dammy Twitch were recognised at the inaugural edition of Rolling Stone Africa’s Culture in the Room, an invitation-only gathering held in Lagos in partnership with Martell. The high-profile evening united creators, founders and global leaders for a curated night of artistic recognition, establishing a defining milestone for cultural exchange across West Africa.

Martell’s partnership with Rolling Stone Africa reflects Maison Martell’s long-standing belief that the most meaningful success comes from staying true to your vision while pursuing excellence with purpose. For more than three centuries, Martell has celebrated individuals whose work speaks for itself, recognising those who continue to shape culture through creativity, authenticity and lasting impact.

The Mwankom Vanguard Awards, one of the defining moments of the evening, celebrated individuals whose contributions continue to move culture forward. As part of Martell’s partnership, Davido received the Music Award in recognition of his enduring influence on African music and his contribution to taking the continent’s sound to a global audience. Dammy Twitch was honoured with the Visual Storytelling Award for his creative direction and his role in shaping some of Africa’s most compelling visual narratives.

A celebration of Africa’s creative future

The evening included the unveiling of Rolling Stone Africa’s latest cover featuring actor Boris Kodjoe. Welcome remarks were delivered by Itohan Barlow, Senior Vice President of Rolling Stone Africa, who spoke to the publication’s vision for strengthening cultural exchange across the continent.

Speaking on the evening, Ikechukwu Agu, Commercial Director at Pernod Ricard Nigeria, said:

“For more than three centuries, Martell has believed that the most meaningful achievements come from remaining true to your vision rather than seeking external validation. That philosophy continues to guide us today. Our partnership with Rolling Stone Africa reflects a shared commitment to recognising individuals whose dedication to their craft and lasting cultural impact continue to inspire progress. We are proud to support platforms that create opportunities for connection, recognise excellence and champion the voices driving cultural progress across the continent.”
