Discover singer and songwriter Fave’s ultimate beauty secrets and detailed makeup routine, designed to tackle large pores while achieving a gorgeous, radiant “fairy glow”.
You may know her for romantic tracks like “Baby Riddim” and “Mr Man”, though you’re more familiar with her rasp-laced vocals on the Davido hit “Kante”. Her latest EP “RnBling” spotlights the best of her qualities; on the high-tempo “Body Talk” and “Dance”, she brings her rhythmic talk-singing that forces the listener to dance or, as she puts it, “talk with your body”. For tracks like “Miss You” and “La La La”, she strips the beat back and gets vulnerable with the lyrics. This versatility is one of the many skills of Nigerian singer-songwriter Fave.
Chidozie Godsfavour Ugochinyere, whose stage name is Fave, needs little to no introduction, as her discography speaks for itself. At 19, while studying law, she began uploading raw, minute-long vocal freestyles to X (formerly known as Twitter) during the 2020 lockdowns. No one, including Fave, could have predicted how rapidly her bedroom recordings would translate to global airwaves.
Soon after, she earned the mainstream success she hoped for. The viral surge of her 2021 breakout single, “Baby Riddim,” topped charts across Africa and established her distinct musical identity. This includes her sultry vocal phrasing, dancehall-infused rhythms, and intensely personal songwriting.
Her next challenge was proving she was no transient internet phenomenon, which she conquered by winning the Headies Rookie of the Year in 2022. She also secured high-profile guest verses alongside powerhouses like Olamide and Davido, and amassed over half a billion career streams.
Today, Fave stands as one of West Africa’s most compelling pop exports, distinguished by a refusal to stick strictly to one genre box. However, a lesser-known fact about the African pop star is her love, and talent, for the beauty industry. One scroll through her Instagram feed, and her thin eyebrow, red lip, and glittery eyeshadow cannot be missed. This ethereal look is dubbed “Fairy Makeup”
In this edition of #MyBeautyHack, Fave breaks down every step to get the glittery and glossy look that has threatened the ‘Clean Girl’ trend. From her skin prep to the tips and tricks for applying makeup as a woman with big pores, she leaves no stone unturned and no step untouched.

Fave’s skin prep for applying makeup if you have big pores

In a green and yellow bathing suit set, Fave comes into the screen chanting “Marie Claire! Maire Claire! Marie Claire!” Clearly, she is excited to walk us through her beauty routine, and this sentiment is mutual.
“Lip balm,” she says as she starts by applying the “Laneige lip mask” to her lips. As she rubs it on, she confesses, “This is actually a lip mask, but it is all the same thing.” Her application routine for the lip mask is a twice-daily one: “I use it before I go to bed, and when I wake up, after my skincare routine.”
Additionally, she reveals that before filming, she applied her sunscreen and the other steps for her daily skincare routine. We are not here for skincare; this is a makeup tutorial, and if you want the latter, we have that here. This is also a skin prep for said beauty tutorial.
“I have to make sure that I moisturise my face, even more. Prime my face! Before I put the makeup on.”
Skin prep is skin important
The first step for her is clipping her hair. As she holds her wig back with metallic clips, she jokes about its importance, “We don’t want anything standing in the way of our greatness.” After that, she reaches for her Charlotte Tilbury Water Magic Cream, which she applies in lines and dots across her cheeks, forehead, and jaw.
While using her “magic cream”, she addresses the star pimple patches on her face and expresses her scepticism of their abilities. She takes them off as she begins to massage the cream into her face, covering her temples, under-eyes, nose, and cheeks.
“You are about to see the easiest, most beautiful makeup routine ever!” she exclaims as she lets the moisture settle in for a minute before applying anything else. In the meantime, she eats a shawarma; it is more than a minute, but she would rather not take her chances.
She grabs the One Size Secure the Sweat primer for her next step. “I am a sweater, so I have to find ways to block my sweat,” she says as she applies a tiny amount of primer to her hand, and then she transfers it to her face. “They tell you not to put primer under your eyes directly,” she says as she massages it around her eyes.
She theorises why professionals say that but eventually admits, “I have no idea… I just listen to whatever the makeup creators, makeup gods, tell me.” The primer application does not end on her face, as she can be seen massaging it into her neck before allowing it to sit for a minute or two.
As she comes to the end of the skin prep, she picks up her favourite product, the Danessa Myricks Universal Blurring Balm. She loves it because it helps her with her “big pores”. “If you don’t have big pores, you don’t know what God has done for you,” she jokes. It is clear that she has an affinity for the product because we can see there is barely anything left in it. She pokes fun at her almost empty Blurring Balm by singing, “Poverty [is] no good.”
Lastly, she holds the dewy skin prep look with an Elf Power Grip Dewy Setting Spray. This is a highlight for her because it “holds everything and locks in moisture.” She lets it settle for a minute and speeds up this process with a hand fan.

When it is time for coverage, Fave opts for the Bloom by Lisa foundation, applying it sparingly with her fingers. She avoids overly heavy products, praising the entrepreneur behind the brand for creating a formula packed with natural ingredients that match the skin flawlessly while causing zero damage.
“I don’t really like foundation,” she reveals, “I only use this because it has natural ingredients in it.” She applies a little on her cheeks and forehead, and she does this with her fingers. As for her reason for applying foundation with her fingers, she has none, but when she is done, she wipes her fingers clean.
For concealing and contouring, she drops her product (Born This Way concealer) lower than the immediate under-eye line, mapping the face with a standard shade. “They say don’t apply too close to your eyes,” she says. “I know I am saying ‘they said’ too much, but that’s what I call the makeup people on the internet.”
She explains this before layering a distinct white concealer (HNB cosmetics airbrush concealer) directly beneath her eyes for extreme brightness. She pairs this with a heavy pop of vibrant pink shadow blush from the Beauty by AD palette across her cheekbones, creating a whimsical “fairy-like” flush.
Fave uses the concealer, contour (Beauty by AD palette), and blush to create a defined look. Her focal areas are her temples, cheekbones, nose, and jawline. As she contours her face, she gets comfortable and dishes out a few fun facts about her.
Blending, fun facts, and answers with Fave

She notes that back then in her school, they didn’t have blurring balm, and Milk of Magnesia was the go-to primer. “The good old days. Now the kids nowadays don’t know… But now primer comes in different shapes and sizes.”
She begins to blend the contour as she reveals even more facts about her: “I sleep with my eyes open” and “I chew with my mouth closed” as she demonstrates how. She uses a blending sponge for this step and expresses, “I start with my under eye” so she can then apply a white concealer again.
As the look starts to come into play, she answers a few questions that she had been asked by her followers on Instagram. “What’s your favourite genre?” To that, she gives a cheeky answer, “Right now, it is ‘RnBling’.”
She uses a brush to give finishing touches to the blush she blends, and laughs when she reads the question, “Do you believe in love at first sight?” Her answer is negative; she believes in love at first speak, but not so much for sight. “Whatever it is that you are falling in, is probably lust, or damnation, or problem.”
Eventually, she uses a smaller brush to blend the white concealer. She spreads it across her under-eye regions, the sides of her nose, and her eyelids.

Get Fave’s eye and lip makeup routine

When it comes to brows, Fave stays devoted to a very tiny, classic pencil aesthetic. “It’s no secret that I love tiny brows,” she says. “Rule of thumb for the brows. It has to be tiny. I don’t really care so much for how I draw it because it’s tiny. When I conceal it, it will still look immaculate. She uses the Charlotte Tilbury BROW CHEAT Eyebrow pencil and carves the edges out cleanly with a custom mix of her foundation and concealer. Then she uses the Charlotte Tilbury airbrush setting spray to keep it in place.
To lock her base, she uses the Laura Mercier pressed setting powder over her lids to immediately stop creasing. She shares a smart trick for loose powder: always tap your puff against the back of your hand first to accurately measure the quantity before touching your skin. After blending the setting powder, she uses her trusted Charlotte Tilbury airbrush setting spray again.
Don’t forget your eyeshadow
For her eyes, Fave reveals that she keeps things beautifully consistent. “I do the same eyeshadow makeup every day of my life when I do my makeup,” she notes. She relies on the Ruby Kisses Malibu Sunrise eyeshadow palette filled with soft pinks to maintain her ethereal aesthetic. “This is how you stay a fairy pink. Always subtle. Not too much. Don’t do too much”. For an extra dramatic punch, she dabs a touch of fine glitter directly onto the lids.
To ground the delicate eye shadows, she applies a sharp, liquid winged eyeliner. She knows precision is paramount; she admits, “I had to go do my eyeliner in the bathroom because I needed the mirror.” She balances her face out with an all-over dusting of Laneige Compact Powder.
We began with lips, and with them we shall end
Right before creating her lip look, Fave re-applies her hydrating lip mask (Laneige lip mask) to clean away excess powder and residue. “I love my lips. Extra moisturised,” she highlights. She shapes her lips with the Kiko Milano lip liner and smudge brush combo, blending it heavily before filling the centre with a bright pink lipstick. To soften the intense contrast, she mixes in a nude gloss to tone down the brightness. She then completes the colour profile with a black liner (Hourglass waterproof gel eyeliner) to tie her black-and-pink fairy theme together.
As a final, highly personal touch after setting her face, she uses her liquid eyeliner to trace and accentuate her natural beauty marks, even dotting a few playful new ones across her nose and cheeks. Then applies her Pat McGrath Labs Mascara (Dark Star) and Dior Lip Oil.
With her look fully locked down and a fresh, glazed lip shining, Fave drops one last exciting announcement for her dedicated style followers. Following a highly successful clothing event, she is planning her next major move back home. “I am going to be doing another yard sale really soon because the first one was awesome,” she shares enthusiastically. “Maybe I should do it in another state in Nigeria… you guys talk about how Lagos people have everything.”
