KeymasterGrammy-nominated rapper Wale has unveiled the official music video for “YSF,” his collaboration with Nigerian stars Teni and Seyi Vibez, delivering a visually rich tribute to Nigerian identity, artistry, and cultural heritage.
Directed by Nigerian Alté creative Odunsi the Engine and filmed in Lagos, the video embraces a deeply rooted celebration of tradition while blending it with modern fashion, music, and visual storytelling. Through carefully crafted scenes inspired by Yoruba culture and contemporary African creativity, “YSF” becomes more than just a music video — it feels like a statement of cultural pride and reconnection.
Born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin to Nigerian immigrant parents, Wale has long incorporated his heritage into his artistry. While his career is often associated with Washington D.C. and the DMV scene, “YSF” offers one of his most intentional explorations of his Nigerian roots to date, placing African identity at the center of the visual and musical experience.

Shot entirely on 16mm film, the video carries a nostalgic and cinematic texture that enhances its storytelling. Wale, Teni, and Seyi Vibez appear in a fusion of traditional Adire Alabela garments and modern Western fashion silhouettes, symbolizing the bridge between heritage and contemporary culture. The visual also highlights the intricate craftsmanship behind Adire textile-making, particularly the wax-resist dyeing process used to create detailed patterns deeply connected to Yoruba artistic tradition.
A significant part of the video was filmed within an exhibition by acclaimed Nigerian artist Fadekemi Ogunsanya, whose work recently earned recognition as a finalist for the 2026 Loewe Foundation Craft Prize. Known for preserving and reimagining traditional Yoruba indigo-dyed textile techniques through Adire Eleko artistry, her inclusion adds another layer of cultural authenticity and historical depth to the visual narrative.
Musically, “YSF” reflects the same cultural fusion. The song blends English, Nigerian Pidgin, and Yoruba while referencing legendary Nigerian musicians such as Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, Sir Shina Peters, and King Sunny Adé. Teni and Seyi Vibez bring distinct energy and emotional texture to the track, helping shape a sound that balances introspection, celebration, and identity.
The single appears on Wale’s critically acclaimed album everything is a lot., which debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hip-Hop charts and further reinforced his reputation for blending thoughtful lyricism with personal storytelling and cultural commentary.
With the “YSF” video, Wale continues to demonstrate his ability to merge music, fashion, heritage, and visual art into a cohesive cultural experience. It is both a celebration of Nigerian creativity across generations and a reminder of the enduring influence African culture continues to have on global music and art.
